The Holbox area offers fly fishing anglers an amazing experience with giant Tarpon opportunities in the late Spring and Summer and great fishing all year. The back country in Holbox has steady fishing for smaller tarpon and snook.
Holbox is famous for giant Tarpon Fishing. The island is located at the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. The area has Giant Tarpon Fishing opportunities throughout the summer months out off the island and has plenty of smaller lagoons and mangrove shorelines offering more great fly fishing opportunities all year long.
If you are visiting the Yucatan or the Cancun area you do not want to let this opportunity pass you by. It is an experience of a lifetime and it is an incredible location to fish for the Giant Tarpon. Unlike Florida, these fish are not pressured and sought after by thousands of boats and anglers. Day trips are not available due to the logistics. You get to Holbox, stay the night, fish the next day, and return to Cancun after your fishing trip. Or, stay another day if you'd like.
If you have non angler companions with you, Holbox it is a beautiful place to visit without fishing and is just a relaxing old Mexico fishing village.

Fly Fishing For Giant Tarpon and light tackle fishing.
Holbox is a great fishing location all year long. The small lagoons and flats in an area called Cabo Catoche hold baby Tarpon and Snook all year long along with Sea Trout, Barracuda, and several other species, including a few schools of large resident Tarpon but the big schools of migrating Giant Tarpon are here during the summer months from May to September.
You will be guided on an 18ft Panga by your personal and experienced guide who will be there to help you on your day of fishing. If you are looking for your first giant Tarpon experience, this is the place and the guides you are looking for to have a successful experience.
All fishing will be done from the boat. Plan to dress accordingly for the hot summer Mexican sun and make sure to have your standard items of polarized sunglasses and proper clothing.
Included In Your Holbox Fly Fishing Charter
Trips include an English speaking guide, a box lunch with soft drinks, purified water, and soft drinks. There is a cooler on board for your own snacks or drinks. If staying in a beach hotel, you are picked up in the morning. If not on the beach, you will be a short walk to the boats.
Not Included in your trip:
Fly Fishing Gear. Fly Rod and Reel is available for rent at $50usd per day. You are of course welcome to bring your own gear. If visiting in Late Spring or Summer, you will need 11wt or 12wt rods and reels with 300yards of backing and weight forward sinking line with 9ft leaders and 80lb to 100lb shock tippet. During the rest of the year and 8wt rod & reels. Fly options are the cockroach and black and purple death flies.
Your transportation to and from Holbox. You will need to drive or taxi approximately two hours from Cancun to Chiquilia and take the ferry over to Holbox Island. Your fishing license is $12usd per day or $30usd per week.
Gratuities which are greatly appreciated for the guides. A customary tip may be between 10% and 20%.

Questions & Answers
When do I need to book? We recommend making your reservation as early as you can. With so many people looking for this experience, and with it being seasonal, it is difficult to guarantee any day to day availability on the trips.
How do I make my reservation? A 15% deposit is required to make your reservation. This can be done online through the website or over the phone by credit card.
Do you recommend a good hotel to stay in? Yes. There are several good options depending on what you are looking for. Here are some great choices: Paraiso del Mar, Holbox Dreams, Hotel Flamingo, Xaloc, Casa Iguana, Hotel Tortugas, Mawimbi, Casa Sandra, and Palapas del Sol.
